Tanya Simone
Contemporary Portrait Photographer
Hello, I’m Tanya Maycock, a portrait photographer based in Nassau, Bahamas.
I take legacy pictures that celebrate who you are. I also develop striking imagery that distinguishes the personal qualities of your brand.
I am here to show you that divine and unique spark you carry within.
finding the camera…
I was 15 years old when a desperate art teacher placed a camera in my hands. Apparently I couldn’t draw well enough to pass my Art GCE, but I fell in love with photography.
I survived the dark room, where my instructor casually smoked like nothing was flammable.
I also passed the art exam, became a yearbook photo nerd, and ended up teaching a photography class at my high school.
finding my career…
I took a few photography courses while studying International Relations at FIU. And I was having way too much fun in Miami to come back home when classes were done.
One day, I had to make a call. As I slipped a quarter into the pay phone, I noticed that I was standing in front of a massage school. That moment launched my career as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
License #MA0019852 whisked me into the world of exclusive personal service. For three decades I focused on healing bodies and mastering therapeutic massage at The Lyford Cay Club, The Island House, A Better Back Chiropractic, and my own practice in Nassau, Bahamas.
And those international relations classes? Quite useful for disarming sophisticated, global clients, and fostering genuine connections.
It all was hands-on, intimate, professional work preparing me for what I do now.

finding my focus
Craving a creative outlet, I returned to photography. Workshops in New Orleans, Santa Fe, Paris, and South Africa were a great way to discover fresh subject material and explore the world! And back home, my clients began asking me to photograph their families.
Then in 2008, I discovered Sue Bryce, an internationally acclaimed portrait photographer and educator. She became my mentor, helping me find my stride as an portrait artist. In 2021, I opened my first portrait studio in Nassau.
I found my calling in portrait photography, where connection, collaboration and creativity converge in something tangible and timeless.
My happiest place is behind a lens, with a client against some stunning backdrop, teasing conversations, expressions and poses into unforgettable visual stories.
